Catherine's Traditional Festive Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Charity Helpers
Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have supported their local areas.
The sizable congregation will enjoy a mix of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Focusing on Kindness and Compassion
The theme of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on Friday, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Among the guests will be Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"The time, care and compassion you give, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the carol service.
A Steady Comeback
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Musical Talent and Access
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers backed by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the former royal to increase availability of musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the trust, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," Carys said. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.
Generations Gathering
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who plays the euphonium, will likewise attend the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Among the guests will be people from various age groups.
That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for local food charities.
