The January recruitment period is always a time of feverish rumour and possible big-money transfers. A number of high-profile footballers find themselves connected to moves out of their present clubs. Here is a look at some of the major names that could be on the move this month.

A. Semenyo

Despite Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has kept the player in contention, reports suggest a significant move is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a contract featuring a sizeable buy-out clause applicable for a two-week window at the start of the month. Latest reports indicate Manchester City look to have won the race for his services. Other interested parties like Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have turned their attention to alternative options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a late bid.

M. Guéhi

The English defender has continued to impress for Crystal Palace despite a previous transfer to Liverpool collapsing. With his contract due to run out in the summer, January is the London club's last chance to obtain a fee for their captain. A host of elite clubs, including Manchester City and multiple continental powerhouses like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, are believed to hold an interest. Yet, a January departure remains difficult, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh winger has found first-team minutes hard to come by at Spurs this campaign. Although finishing as the side's top scorer last season, he has started only a handful of league matches. Reports suggest the North London club is open to a sale for the right valuation, thought to be in the around £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be leading the chase, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace also showing an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal midfielder could be poised for a return to the Premier League following a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now just 28, and with his contract expiring in the summer, he is a potential bargain. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with the former Wolves man. Additionally, there are suggestions from Spain that he is prepared to take a pay cut for a switch to Real Madrid.

M. ter Stegen

The experienced German shot-stopper finds himself as third-choice at Barcelona under the manager Hansi Flick. After fallen out of favour and undergone an operation, a winter exit looks increasingly probable. Aston Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that move now appears off. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly showing interest in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The proven English centre-forward has continued scoring frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League could enhance his dwindling hopes of being in the national squad. However, arranging a deal poses significant hurdles. His current club do not wish to sell him, and his reported huge weekly wages make any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as interested parties.

Conor Gallagher

This dynamic midfielder drew considerable interest in the summer but remained at Atlético. With limited starting appearances in Spain this term, he is keen to secure more playing time ahead of the tournament. Manchester United have been strongly linked, and a move back to Crystal Palace, where he shone on a temporary deal, is also a option, although wage constraints might be a problem.

Harvey Elliott

Despite excelling and winning player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer, the talented midfielder has found it tough for game time during his loan spell at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move will not become permanent. Due to specific rules regarding playing for two clubs in a campaign, a return to his parent club before next summer appears to be the only viable solution.

K. Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey attacker is in fine form for the Italian giants this term. With his existing deal nearing its end, a host of Premier League sides – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but are in a battle to keep one of Europe's most promising young talents.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has earned parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following starring at the U19 Euros, he has broken into the AZ Alkmaar first team. This teenager is widely tipped to complete a major transfer in January. Newcastle are believed to be leading the chase, but are facing stiff rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing valued at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
